On October 17, 2016, the Growth Dialogue held the Cities as Drivers of Growth event (with the CAF – Corporacion Andina de Fomento) at the UN’s Habitat III Conference on Housing and Sustainable Development in Quito, Ecuador. Danny Leipziger facilitated a high level panel discussion with the Deputy Exec. Dir. of U. N. Habitat, Colombia’s Planning Minister and the World Bank’s Urban Practice Leader to examine how urban policy, finance, and governance interplay to make cities more resilient. Two papers were produced for the conference by the Growth Dialogue’s team of experts: Cities as Growth Accelerators and Inclusive Growth in Cities: Challenges and Opportunities. The papers placed urbanization in a unique context and concluded with an outline of policy avenues to address the persistent problem of poverty and exclusion, while accommodating new urban inhabitants and facilitating new drivers of growth.
