On April 28-29, 2016, the Growth Dialogue hosted a Symposium on the Impact of Disruptive Technologies on Growth, Employment, and Inequality with the OECD and the World Bank at the OECD headquarters in Paris, France. The keynote speaker was Prof. Philippe Aghion. The symposium brought together leading experts and policy makers from advanced, emerging and developing economies to trace the impact of new and potentially disruptive technologies on key economic outcomes. Three key policy questions were addressed: (i) What is the potential of new technologies as engines of growth? What factors are critical to competing in the emerging global economy? (ii) How disruptive are technologies, such as automation, for industry and people? How do they impact the income distribution? (iii) What are the key implications for policy? What can be done to support the successful implementation of technology to serve inclusive growth?
