On February 10, 2014, the Growth Dialogue hosted the Symposium Frontier Issues in Economic Growth at the George Washington University. The day-long symposium looked at what has changed in the debate on drivers of economic growth and what has remained the same. Discussion topics included the role of physical and human capital, the evidence on TFP in services, the vexing question of whether industrialization still holds the key to growth and development, the impact of financial crisis on growth and how it can be ameliorated by regulatory actions, and current controversies in the kind of pro-growth advice that countries may receive from the international community. The views of eminent growth economists who participated in the symposium, Philippe Aghion, Steven Durlauf, Simon Johnson, Dani Rodrik, and David Weil are compiled in the publication How Economies Grow.
