November 2017

New Technologies, Jobs, Growth, and Development

Author: Carl Dahlman

This policy note first identifies some of the new technologies and summarizes some of the evidence of the past impact of automation on jobs in developed countries. It then surveys some of the projected impact of new technologies on jobs, and identifies some of the factors that will influence outcomes in developing countries. Finally, this note considers the potentially broader impact of new technologies on developing countries in terms of development strategies and the concomitant policy implications.
